Linux & UNIX Consulting
Part-time systems engineering (2–3 days a week)
I take on small contracts and part-time support work for organisations running Linux or mixed UNIX estates. The focus is stability, automation and reducing operational drag. This includes legacy environments that benefit from steady, experienced hands.
Areas I work on
- AlmaLinux / RHEL / Fedora administration
- Debian servers running Nginx or Apache with PHP and MySQL/MariaDB
- Automation with bash, Perl and Python
- Puppet 4 / 5 upkeep, migration support and cleanup
- CVE remediation, patching and TLS / SSL fixes
- VMware provisioning and lifecycle
- Stabilising legacy Perl or shell systems
- Nagios / Icinga monitoring and incident resolution
- Documentation for previously undocumented estates
Approach
I work quietly and practically: identify what’s fragile, fix what matters first, automate what repeatedly causes irritation, and leave the environment clearer and less surprising. No theatrics, no forced rebuilds.
Therapy Practice
Alongside technical work, I'm developing a Hypno-CBT practice and a privacy-focused therapy platform at therapy.narian.org.uk. It’s built on Django, PostgreSQL and Docker, and currently runs on hardware under my desk, so occasional short outages are possible while development continues.
